Academic Requirements
At least 6 units total to complete the minor. At least 34 units total to earn a degree.
Any 6 ITALIAN courses (6 units)
Must include at least 4 courses 300-level and above
Must include at least 3 courses taught in Italian, or taken concurrently with an Italian preceptorial or tutorial
Must include 1 course from 1 of the following areas: Medieval, Renaissance, Modern/Contemporary, Linguistics

Study abroad information. Students are strongly urged to study abroad since this is the best way to achieve language proficiency and to acquire knowledge of a country’s culture. Courses taken abroad count toward the core and/or related courses as follows:
Department-Administered Programs
In English (Duke in Florence & Duke in Venice): A maximum of one course may be counted toward the core-course requirement.
Duke-Administered Summer Programs
In the language (Duke in Bologna): Two courses may be counted.
In English (Duke in Venice): One course may be counted toward the core-course requirement.
Non-Duke-Administered Semester Programs in Italy
All courses taught entirely in Italian: A maximum of two courses per semester may be counted.
Not all courses taught in Italian: A maximum of one course per semester may be counted.
Non-Duke-Administered Summer Programs
Courses taught in Italian: One course may be counted.
